From Stephen Schram, Michigan Radio Executive Director and General Manager
The Flint water crisis has evolved from a compelling and serious statewide story that has catapulted to national impact in the last several months, with coverage in The New York Times, Time Magazine, and even Rolling Stone, as well as national TV news shows.
Michigan Radio has been bringing this story to our listeners across the state from the very beginning, including the city’s 2014 water supply switch to the Flint River and the first reports of lead in the drinking water last July.
Our Michigan Radio reporters — Lindsey Smith, Steve Carmody, Rebecca Williams, Kate Wells and others, have also been explaining the story to listeners nationwide on NPR nationally distributed programs such as All Things Considered, Here & Now, The Diane Rehm Show, and On Point. On national cable channels, our coverage and reporters have been part of stories on MSNBC and live interviews, with Michigan Radio’s Lindsey Smith featured on The Rachel Maddow Show. Many local public radio stations across the country have also incorporated Michigan Radio’s Flint coverage into their news programs and website content feeds.
