Thank You for Supporting Michigan Radio’s Values

Throughout this past year, Michigan Radio has continued to experience marked audience growth. With a weekly audience of 530,000 listeners, we are proud to remain the state’s most listened-to public radio service.Statewide, nationwide and around the world, our increasing audience of loyal listeners tunes in to daily news they know they can trust.

This is largely due to our corporate sponsors and their generous financial support of the programming and unparalleled news reporting that our listeners rely on. This past year our continued coverage of the Flint water crisis, the Environment Reports on PFAS, sexual assault survivor stories and political coverage was especially relevant to the state. We continue to break the most important new stories to Michigan communities, providing the thorough and in-depth reporting you expect.

Looking ahead to 2019, our Corporate Sponsors and contributing members will continue to be a vital part of Michigan Radio. Your support strengthens our resolve to provide you with the highest quality news. My sincere appreciation for each of you for helping to keep Michigan Radio vibrant and thriving.

With warmest regards from all of us at Michigan Radio.

In Celebration of 2017

From Steve Schram,

Michigan Radio Executive Director and General Manager

We are beginning 2018 with enthusiasm and appreciation for the success you helped to build for Michigan Radio in the past year.

Our corporate support sponsors are a vital component in providing the financial support that allows Michigan Radio to serve its primary allegiance– to our audience– as a most trusted source of journalism, focused on the state of Michigan.  We know that you, too, care about our state and want trustworthy journalism to thrive and expand.

Our mission statement articulates those core values and focus:

The mission of Michigan Radio is to produce and distribute trusted content to inform, educate and entertain people who care about the State of Michigan and the world around them.

In 2017, we experienced our most successful year yet with corporate sponsorship participation, representing 24% of the station’s annual revenue.  Audiences have found public radio news and information content to be more essential than ever.  Over 524,000 weekly broadcast listeners tune in across the state, once again positioning Michigan Radio as the state’s most listened to public radio service.  (Nielsen Audio, Spring 2017, National Regional Database, Persons 12+, Mon-Sun 6a-12M)

Also, our continued audience development and growth in Grand Rapids set a new record as our WVGR 104.1 FM service is now the # 1 station in the market with Adults 25-54. (Nielsen Audio, Grand Rapids, MI – Spring 2017, Adults 25-54, Mon-Sun 6a-12M).  In addition to the station’s over-the-air broadcast audience, more than 100,000 people across the state listen to Michigan Radio’s online audio stream each month, available at michiganradio.org and our station app.

We share these results with you proudly because they demonstrate the positive momentum and prospects for continued growth for Michigan Radio.  The increases in broadcast and digital platform listeners place our corporate sponsors in a receptive, clutter-free environment, to communicate their services and products to our highly engaged and influential audience.

If you were part of the Michigan Radio corporate sponsorship family in past year, I thank you for your support and welcome you to expand your presence this coming year.  If we have yet to host your corporate message on the station, I invite you to make that commitment for a better, brighter and prosperous year ahead.  Thank you for your support of Michigan Radio.

gail-heffner-headshotCalvin College, a Christian liberal arts college ranked #1 in the Midwest*, has called Michigan home since its founding in 1876. We are rooted in this vibrant state, with branches of influence across Michigan and around the globe. Indeed, our continuing partnership with Michigan Radio—an organization that reaches communities in Michigan and beyond—is a natural fit.

Over half of the students that Calvin serves are from households in Michigan. We are proud to educate so many students and families from our great state alongside students from 47 other states, 5 Canadian provinces and 61 other countries.

dsc_0097Calvin is committed to investing deeply in the “mitten state,” from community nursing to business partnerships, ACT tutoring to low-income tax assistance, service-learning with nonprofits to environmental stewardship of our land and resources.  Our Plaster Creek Stewards initiative is one example. Calvin College faculty, students and community partners have been working together to restore health and beauty to the Plaster Creek waterway in West Michigan.

It makes sense that Michigan Radio is the place Calvin turns to get the word out about our world-class concerts, in-depth conferences and seminars, and the January Series: an annual lecture lineup deemed “fifteen days of a free liberal arts education.” We welcome many Michigan Radio listeners to our events, listeners who join us in being inquisitive about new ideas, hungry for truth, and passionate about solutions.

Thank you, Michigan Radio and listeners statewide, for participating in our community, whether through an hour-long event, four years of study, or a lifetime of learning.

Featured Sponsor: Allergy & Immunology Associates of Michigan

AIA LefleinJeffreyFor over 30 years Allergy & Immunology Associates of Michigan has been a part of the medical community in southeast Michigan and has supported Michigan Radio since 2007.  Through sponsorship, Michigan Radio has allowed us to share throughout its listening audience that relief is available through diagnosis and advanced treatment for individuals suffering from allergies and asthma at our offices in West Bloomfield, Livonia, Novi, Brighton, Canton, Chelsea, and Ann Arbor.

Our board certified physicians are dedicated to making life with allergies and asthma as comfortable and manageable as possible for our adult and pediatric patients.  This commitment is demonstrated in our community services, cutting edge clinical research team, and as well as in our clinical offices.

Michigan matters to us. For years we have been working with local public and private schools and child care facilities to provide food allergy education by speaking to teachers and staff to provide safe school environments.   Our doctors played a major role in “EpiPens for School Program” so every public school throughout Michigan has life-saving doses of epinephrine.  Our physicians have remained active in both local and national events investigating the latest research discoveries and treatments.

Michigan Radio is important to us as well.  As listeners, we are well aware of the profoundly valuable service that their journalism provides to the citizens of this state.  Using Michigan Radio to spread the word about our services just makes sense: we are able to reach an audience that is receptive and in need of our service while at the same time providing financial support to a cause that we care about.  There is no doubt that our relationship with Michigan Radio has nurtured the growth of this practice.

As we expand, adding offices and physicians to serve our patients, we can be confident that our message on Michigan Radio is being heard across the state, in all the areas that we provide service.  When we open a new space in a community, the residents there have already heard our message on Michigan Radio, since we have been a long time sponsor.

We expect to continue our mutually favorable relationship with Michigan Radio going forward, as Allergy & Immunology Associates grows to reach and serve the needs of our state’s citizens.

With Gratitude to Our Corporate Sponsors

From Kathy Agosta, Director of Corporate Support

During 2015, Corporate Sponsorship at Michigan Radio experienced the exhilaration of continued positive growth and we anticipate another great year in 2016.

Also, like all of us, we have been reminded of the uncertainties of the world, and naturally reflect on the blessings we have, knowing that we can take nothing for granted.

I am personally grateful for all of you, our business supporters and station friends. Thank you for helping keep Michigan Radio vibrant and relevant.

I look forward to seeing and working with you in 2016, and to our continued mutual partnership in support of something else we all can truly be grateful for… Michigan Radio…

Warmest wishes for the New Year.
